Round 15 vs Cerezo OSAKA "No points in away"

On the 25th, Urawa Reds played away at Yodoko Sakura Stadium against Cerezo Osaka in round 15 of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League.

Although the Reds had an advantage in the first half, they conceded a goal in the second half due to penalties. They tried to attack to tie the score, but they conceded a goal in the final stages and lost 0-2.

From the start, they put intense pressure on the opponent's defenders, and while holding the ball, they also used long balls aimed at the backs of their opponents, launching attacks. Also, even after losing the ball, they regained it with quick transitions and coordinated defense.

In the 24th minute, with the team in control, Yoshio Koizumi hit a pass from the opposing goalkeeper to her body, and Kasper Aalund Junker calmly passed the ball to Koizumi, who calmly stopped the ball once before taking a shot. This appeared to be a goal as it landed in the top right corner of the goal, but VAR (Video Assistant Referee) ruled it offside.

In the 27th minute, Koizumi, who escaped from the right side after Alex Schalk 's floating ball, sent a cross, and Schalk, who was free on the left side of the penalty area, shot with his right foot. However, the ball bounced off the right post and unfortunately they were unable to score a goal.

After that, they created multiple attacking situations while linking passes from the back line to the midfield and then to the front, but they were unable to score and the first half ended scoreless.

In the second half, the Reds players continued to move the ball and play with great intensity, but in the 62nd minute, Takahiro Sekine blocked an opponent's cross with a sliding move that was checked by VAR and the referee's on-field review. As a result, it was ruled a PK due to a hand foul. They converted this in the 67th minute and conceded a goal.

Immediately after conceding the goal, coach Ricardo Rodriguez sent Yuichi Hirano Okubo, and Yusuke Matsuo onto the pitch in place of Kai Shibato Hirano, Tomoaki Okubo, and Schalk. In the 71st minute, Ken Iwao stole the ball in the center, and Okubo cut in from the right side and shot with his left foot. Although the ball was held by the opposing goalkeeper, they showed some momentum.

In the 83rd minute, Matsuo received a pass in front of the goal from Okubo on the left side and put the ball in front of the goal while being held close by his opponent, but his opponent cleared it and earned a CK. In the 80th minute, Ayumu Ohata, who had replaced Kazuaki Mawatari took this corner kick, which headed towards the goal, but was deflected by the opposing goalkeeper and turned into another corner kick. In the 84th minute, a CK kicked by Koizumi was cleared by the opponent, and Mawatari picked up the loose ball and took a mid-range shot. However, it was deflected by the opponent.

The Reds players continued to fight for an even score, but they were attacked from behind and conceded a goal in the 89th minute, making the score 0-2. The match ended just like that.

The next match will be against Avispa Fukuoka in Round 16 of the Meiji Yasuda Life J1 League, which will be played away at Best Denki Stadium on Saturday, May 28th from 17:00.

(Even though we are playing well, we are still having trouble winning games. How do you view this?)
``There's a lot of frustration. In every game, all the small details are going to the other side. We've been in a situation where it's about time for quite some time, but now we have to step up.'' I think each player needs to reexamine themselves and improve their performance.”

(You continue to participate in matches, but how is your condition?)
"I'm in very good condition. I think I'm in good condition mentally. I'm feeling frustrated, so I want to turn that into more energy. I have the experience of playing a lot of games, I like it.”

(I'm sure you have various experiences, but have you ever had a series of matches where you couldn't win?)
"I can't remember the details of how many games and what the results were, but there were times when I had bad times."

(How did you overcome that period?)
“I talked earlier about the need for each player to reevaluate themselves and improve their performance, and I think this is especially important for players with experience. I think myself and the older players have to take responsibility."
