Regarding violations and their punishment in the match against Kawasaki Frontale on May 3rd
During the 11th round of the 2024 Meiji Yasuda J1 League against Kawasaki Frontale, held at Uvance Todoroki Stadium by Fujitsu on Friday, May 3, 2024 (national holiday), a violation of the match management regulations by an Urawa Reds supporter occurred.
Urawa Reds are the party that caused so much inconvenience to so many people during the fourth round of the Emperor's Cup JFA 103rd All Japan Football Championship last year, and although we were in a position where we had to do everything we could to prevent the recurrence of violations of the match management regulations, we were unable to prevent this incident from occurring, and for that we offer our sincere apologies.
We would like to offer our sincerest apologies and would like to explain below the details of the violation and the disciplinary action taken, as well as the events that occurred from the time the incident occurred until the issuance of this report.
・Actions subject to disciplinary action
Throwing of items
(After the game ended, when the Urawa Reds players headed to Urawa Reds support area to greet the fans, they threw the large flags they were using for cheering.)
- Persons subject to disciplinary action
One person who committed the act subject to disciplinary action
- Details of the punishment
Indefinite ban on entry
・Matches subject to sanctions
All matches played by Urawa Reds, Urawa Reds Ladies and Urawa Reds Academy on or after May 6th (Monday, holiday), both domestic and international.
・Background to the decision on disciplinary measures
<May 3rd (Friday, national holiday) Match day>
Staff from our club's competition operations headquarters visually confirmed the above-mentioned disciplinary actions on site.
Immediately afterwards, the actions of the individual subject to disciplinary action were confirmed, it was pointed out that they were grounds for disciplinary action, and a stern warning was given, after which a face-to-face discussion was held with the leader of the group to which the individual belonged.
After that, staff from the Competition Management Headquarters reviewed the video footage, and it was announced on the same day that a face-to-face questioning would be conducted on Sunday, May 5th (a national holiday), the earliest possible date given the schedules of both parties.
<May 5th (Sunday, National Holiday) - Two days after the match>
Staff from the competition management headquarters will conduct face-to-face interviews with those subject to the above disciplinary measures and the leaders of their groups.
As an interim measure until disciplinary action is decided, the Competition Management Headquarters will decide on a disciplinary policy after obtaining consent from the above-mentioned individuals to refrain from spectating matches from that day onwards, and after comparing the situation with the "Urawa Red Diamonds Soccer Match Management Regulations" and the "J.League Match Management Penalty Regulations" and discussing it within the Competition Management Headquarters.
Following this decision, the club will convene a compliance committee on the following Monday, May 6th (a public holiday) to make a final decision on disciplinary action.
<May 6th (Monday, holiday) 3 days after the match>
A compliance committee was held to determine the content of the disciplinary measures and to notify those subject to the disciplinary measures.
A written agreement to the disciplinary action was obtained in person on the same day.
Once again, we would like to sincerely apologize for not being able to prevent the occurrence of a violation of the match management regulations.
I understand that it is our natural duty to make such efforts and that we should not embellish them with flowery language, but I cannot help but feel regret and anger that such an incident occurred at a time when many fans, supporters, and external parties have been working with the club to raise awareness and encourage each other to prevent recurrences, with the aim of creating a safe, comfortable, and exciting, full stadium for all Urawa Reds members.
However, this incident will in no way dampen our determination to create a safe, comfortable, and exciting stadium full to capacity.
We will continue to focus on ourselves, concentrate on measures to prevent recurrence, and take timely, appropriate and firm action against any violations, in order to create a safe, comfortable, exciting and packed stadium.
