Trial-match comments
Mihailo Petrovic
(Head Coach)
- "I think today's Urawa vs. Hiroshima game was a very high-profile game for the media. Urawa has been in a slump for the past few years, so it's good that they can play a game that attracts attention like this, and for Urawa, being able to play in such a game is a worthwhile achievement this year.
It was not an easy game against Hiroshima, who are currently leading the league. If we had played as well as we did today, we might have won the league this season. We haven't won the last few Trial, and I think the loss to Sapporo weighed on us.
I think the loss to Sapporo caused some impatience among the players. Despite playing well against Sendai, Cerezo, and Kawasaki, unfortunately we were unable to earn any points.
However, I feel that the content of the game itself could have been better. What I told the players is that sometimes things like that happen in soccer. Even if you play a good game, it's hard to get points. It was a time like that for us. However, we played a good game, and that will definitely lead to the future. That's what I told the players. Hiroshima is a team I know very well. This season, Hiroshima has changed a little from when I was in charge, and I feel that they are now changing to a style of soccer that looks for an opening in the opponent's defense and then counters.
I think the content of their attacks has changed slightly since my time there, but in my analysis, Hiroshima is one that looks for openings in the opponent's defense and then launches an attack.
I have been leading Hiroshima for six seasons, and if Hiroshima could win the league this season, I would be very happy. However, looking at Hiroshima now, I am a little worried about what will happen in the future. Because I myself fought with them in Hiroshima. Today was a game in which our defense was very good. It was not a case of making a block in the back, but a good defense in the form of going up front to get the ball. I think that was the key to today's victory.
We didn't allow them to play quality balls from the back. By going forward, we were able to create a situation where the opponent had to kick a long ball. The opponent didn't have any tall players up front. That's where we were able to decide Trial. I think it was quite risky to go for it with the same number of players. Most Japanese teams try to block the opponent's attacking setup with four players.
However, today we went with the same number of players. If we go on defense with five up front, we will have the same number of players at the back. It will be dangerous if the opponent creates a situation where we pass each other. However, looking at the current Hiroshima and Urawa, I thought they could do that, so I gave that instruction. I think it was a very interesting game. Hiroshima's strength is in their wide players, but they seemed to give up some of those, but even so, they were able to surpass their opponents. In terms of content, I think today was a game that we deserved to win."
Opponent team comment
Hajime Moriyasu
(Head Coach)
- "I think it was very disappointing to receive the result of the loss. However, I told the players that Urawa would come up against us today at home and with a lot of motivation, considering what they had done up until now, and I think the players were well aware of that.
So, at the start of Trial, we were on the defensive, or rather, we knew to some extent that the opponents would come at us from the front and put pressure on us, so we had to persevere and Trial to get the flow back in our own time. However, we couldn't get the flow back, and the players were a little stiff, so we allowed the first goal, and I think that made it difficult to get the flow of Trial.
However, in the second half, we ended up conceding an additional goal, but if the players had been more aggressive and started to move around, created some chances, and scored, the result might have been different. The players really didn't just give up and played as if they were determined to get at least one point, and to get back into Trial, so I think that will lead to the next game.
We would like to do our best in the remaining Trial from here on out.
Many of our supporters came all the way to Saitama Stadium today, and I believe the support of all of you gave our players courage, but I feel disappointed and sorry that we were not able to share the joy of our victory with all of our supporters, and that we were not able to give them a gift."
