Trial-match comments
Mihailo Petrovic
(Head Coach)
- "As you all know, today was a very important game for both teams.
We conceded a goal from a cross early on and it felt like we started Trial trailing 1-0, but after that, I think the players remained calm and played the game well.
The pitch conditions were very bad today, and it was a very difficult Trial for us. Sendai plays a style of football that makes heavy use of long balls, so the pitch conditions were a disadvantage for us, even considering the difference in the style of football between the two teams. Even in those conditions, I think the players fought calmly, and in the first half, they played most of the game on the opponent's court.
However, I think that in the first half, we lacked the final passes and finishing to get closer to the opponent's goal.
In the second half, we continued to take control and pushed the opponent forward, but we conceded the second and third goals due to our own mistakes. As for the second goal, we couldn't get the Trial in the middle, which created a 3-on-3 situation, and as for the third goal, you can see how it went. The players continued to attack and scored the second goal, and of course we had chances to make it 3-on-3 after that.
We had some decisive chances throughout Trial, but unfortunately we weren't able to capitalise on them.
On the other hand, it seemed like the opponent Trial all three of their three shots, and I think that was what decided the outcome of today's Trial.
Trial pitch conditions were very poor, but I think the players fought very well. I think we were clearly superior to Sendai in terms of both energy and content. However, we need to improve on the mistakes that led to the goals we conceded. When we play against Sendai again, I want to play the same kind of football as we did today, and of course we need to eliminate mistakes like today, but I am proud of the players who fought today, and although we lost, I think we are definitely heading in the right direction. I am proud of the players who fought well, and I want to praise them.
Opponent team comment
Makoto Teguramori
(Head Coach)
- “As part of today's game plan, we talked about getting ready for a fierce battle in a fight for the championship and a high-profile match.
Our strategy was to start with good defense and then attack. Considering the point difference, we went into the game with a common understanding within the team that Urawa would probably come aggressively today. I tried to enter with momentum because I was able to take advantage of the players coming.
It was a game where we showed our momentum by scoring in the 2nd minute of the first half, but on the other hand, I think our defensive awareness has increased more than I expected from our good defense.
In the first half, we continued to be shaky as we tried to protect our 1-0 lead. In the end, we won 3-2, but we were the ones who had to suffer physically, and I think the opening goal reflected that.
However, I think that being able to take the initiative throughout the game led to us getting the three points, and after the game ended, the players felt that the three points were a big win, but even though we were down by two points, the points were not worth it. We talked about the need to reflect on what went wrong.
However, since we were able to make the first move and make the most of this tense game, we talked about how we can move on with confidence because we have grown mentally tough. I said earlier that we should brace ourselves for the remaining five races, considering that Tsunoda will be suspended and Uemoto may be injured, so everyone will have to cover for all of those issues.
First and foremost, I am glad that we were at home today, and that we could not have been able to fight alongside the supporters and defeat the powerful Reds without their support. I want to fight together for the remaining five races, that's all."
