Trial-match comments

Mihailo Petrovic

(Head Coach)

"I think we played a very good Trial in the first half. As we had planned, we were able to take the lead, but in the second half, our energy level started to drop and we were pushed back by the opponent. From that point on, we continued to concede goals and ultimately ended up with a draw.
However, regarding the scene where the opposing player seemed to have handled the ball in the penalty area, I personally think that it would not be strange to award a penalty kick. I told the players at halftime that a score of 2-0 was very dangerous, but unfortunately, in the second half, they lost the strength to go for the third goal.
However, I am very positive about the 2-2 score. I think FC Tokyo is the team with the most competitive players in the J1 League, both in terms of quality and depth. They have strengthened their team by reinforcing their roster since the start of the new season. Looking at the history, I think they should already be in a position to compete for the top spot this season. Considering that we ended up with a draw against that team and were superior to them in the first half, I am not at all pessimistic about the result.
In the 20 games so far, I think the players have done better than they could in every Trial. That's why in the second half, the players started to lose momentum and were pushed back by the opponent, but I understand that it was tough for the players. We have a clear direction to go and what we're aiming for. We just need to keep going in that direction.
Maybe we can get something out of this season, but we just have to go for it and fight as a team.
With today's Trial, we are now unbeaten in 11 Trial. Not many teams in the league can do that. The team that was fighting for relegation last season is now in third or fourth place, and I think that's proof that the players have worked so hard. It's not me, but the players who are working hard. I think that's the result.
Anyway, we plan to continue to fight with this team.”

Opponent team comment

Ranko Popovic

(Head Coach)

"Once again, we were able to play Trial that everyone could enjoy. I would like to congratulate both teams for putting on such a good Trial.
Today, I believe we were able to show some aggressive and attractive football, and I believe we were able to play the kind of football that the Japanese people will be pleased with.
I believe the Olympic Trial have already started, so if they can just win there, then I'll be all set (laughs).
First of all, we didn't start off badly, but we conceded a careless goal at that time, which disrupted our pace. Today, before Trial, I told the players to stay calm and not get impatient, but to fight tenaciously and patiently. The opponent also defended well and had sharp, highly accurate counterattacks, so I didn't want to let the game develop into one where we rushed to attack, intercepted a pass, and then got counterattacked.
So, when it comes to passing, we have to use the width of the field well, shake up the opponent and make vertical passes. If we can't move the ball forward, we should use the width to move the ball around to shake up the opponent, be persistent and patient, and look for an opportunity to move the ball forward. I mean persistently. In that regard, we were a little shaken up after conceding a goal, but after we made it 2-0, we changed our system and I think we were able to move the ball in the opponent's territory for the most part in the second half. I think we were able to show a more aggressive style of football.
I have nothing but words to say about Urawa's counter attacks, which I think are truly amazing. They are a team with highly accurate counter attacks, so we were somewhat wary of that.
I think the players on both teams performed really well today, and I also think our players performed really well.
Despite being two goals behind, they didn't give up and fought aggressively and courageously until the end. With a little more luck at the end, it might have been possible, but even if we didn't score that goal, I'm happy with the result and the play and attitude our players showed."
