Trial-match comments

Mihailo Petrovic

(Head Coach)

"Tosu has won some games and lost others, but they have played close games in every Trial against every team.
We thought they were a compact and intense team, so we expected it to be a tough game today. However, things didn't go as we expected until the 60th minute.
I think we were able to play football on the pitch until the 60th minute. We were superior to our opponents on the pitch, and our 4-0 lead was well deserved.
Then, Kashiwagi Yosuke had a chance from a pass by Márcio, and if that had gone in, we would have had a 5-point lead. That was the flow of the game. For the remaining 30 minutes, the pitch was flooded due to heavy rain, and unfortunately we were unable to play football. The pitch conditions were favorable for our opponents, who made use of their height to play long balls.
We had been passing the ball well up until that point, and hadn't given the opponent many opportunities to do so. However, in that situation, the opponent's strength showed in the remaining 30 minutes. From the bench, I kept instructing the players to kick the ball behind the opponent, yelling until I was hoarse, but unfortunately, my message didn't get through to the players, and they continued to pass the ball behind them.
However, I can fully understand why the players continued to do that. For the past six months, I have been telling them not to just kick the ball vertically, and to always maintain possession from the back and build attacks. The instructions I gave may have been a shock to the players, and perhaps their bodies reacted automatically.
Looking back at Tosu's game in Round 17, I don't think there was a team that outplayed Tosu. That was until the 60th minute, though. We need to learn how to play in those conditions, and use today's lesson to see if we'll find ourselves in those conditions again in the future. We need to switch to a style of football that kicks the ball forward.
I am very proud of my players. Looking back at the 17th round, I think the players fought very well. Especially today's game, they fought very well until the 60th minute. I think it was 60 minutes that showed what we have built up and that the direction we are heading in is right.
Of course, I'm also very grateful to the supporters who cheered us on today, and I'm very proud of them. I think the supporters were enjoying today's game until we got a four-point lead.
I regret that the game unfolded in that way in those pitch conditions, and some may criticize us for that, but I am happy that we were able to win in the end, and the fact that I took a shower and got changed is an expression of that feeling (laughs)."

Opponent team comment

Yoon Chung-hwan

(Head Coach)

"Today's Trial was held in a magnificent stadium that the players really wanted to play in, and although they played their hardest for the entire 90 minutes, it is disappointing that we did not get the results we wanted.
During the pre-match meeting, I had explained to the players that today's game would require their full concentration, and that they would need to adapt quickly to the conditions in this stadium and on the pitch.
However, we struggled to take control from the beginning of the first half and were constantly being pushed back by the opponent. After conceding a goal early in the first half, we started to feel a little more stable, but in the second half we conceded a lot of goals. During that period, our players' concentration was disrupted.
There was a period when the Urawa players lost their concentration, but we were able to catch up to three points. Although the result was what it was, I would like to thank the players for not giving up until the end, and I also think that our players have some issues adapting to the stage and ground of J1. If we can adapt to those aspects, I think we will be able to play a much better game.
Also, I'm really sorry to everyone who came all the way here. The games are coming up soon, so of course there's no time to be feeling down.
We need to get better prepared for the next game."
