Trial-match comments
Mihailo Petrovic
(Head Coach)
- "As you all saw, it was a very tough, hard game. I think this kind of game often happens when two good teams face off. I think both teams played cautiously in the first half. Neither team wanted to take too many risks, and that's how they played.
From my perspective, I think we played a better game than Sendai in the second half. Among the chances we created, some shots hit the bar and some shots hit the post, so in that sense, we were unlucky that they didn't become goals. In my opinion, the scenes where goals were scored should have been judged as goals, but unfortunately, they were not recognized as goals.
I think throughout Trial, especially in the second half, our team played well enough to win, but we just weren't lucky at the end."
Opponent team comment
Makoto Teguramori
(Head Coach)
- "First of all, today's game was against Urawa, who have risen to third place, and we talked about putting on a game worthy of a top-ranked team. In the meeting, we prepared for two situations: one in which Urawa will come at us aggressively from the front and move the ball around a lot, and the other in which they may tighten their defense. Since it will be a game of strategy, we talked about trying to play an aggressive defense, use different blocks, and keep the ball in possession.
Although we didn't score any goals, I feel that Sendai did well in terms of the exchange of points, even in this away environment. We had talked within the team that our season goal was to get 35 points from 17 Trial, and 1 point away would be fine, but we went for 3, and in the end, 1 point would have been fine, and that's exactly what we got. While I'm happy with it, I also feel that if we had been a bit more persistent in attacking from the outside in the second half, something might have happened, and the timing of the substitutions was a bit off. I was also scared of the individuality of Urawa's attackers, so I think we were cautious in not wanting them to score.
However, when I think about Vegalta's away games last year and the year before, I feel that they were forced to play defensively, but now they have the ball and have grown. Today's game was against the Reds' system, and the next game against Hiroshima will have a similar system, so I think we played a good Trial today, and looking ahead to our next home game. Especially at home, we want to keep the clean sheet and score goals to put us ahead of second place."
