Trial-match comments

Volker Finke

(Head Coach)

"The team has shown very positive growth. Of course, we saw some very good plays in today's Trial, and the team also played very well in the previous match against Nagoya. I am very satisfied with many aspects of today's performance. However, it is also true that we were unable to score a second goal, and a 1-0 lead is a dangerous situation in a way. This dangerous 1-0 situation continued for a long time, but even so, I think our team has shown very good growth."
Fundamentally, as you all know, I rarely criticize the team in public. So, I will refrain from doing so here today, but I believe our team is making very good progress.
There's one more thing I'd like to say. I visited this stadium last year as well, and there were so many fans and supporters there. I believe football is a very emotional sport. So many loyal and wonderful fans and supporters visit this home stadium every year, every matchday, and we've been able to experience such a great result here, with three consecutive wins.
I believe that these positive results will further strengthen the sense of unity between our team and our fans and supporters, allowing us to work together for the team's growth.
I believe we need to further improve our concentration, especially in situations that could lead to scoring. If we lose focus at those points, it becomes difficult to score additional goals. If we continue to get results like this, people around us might start to think that Urawa Reds has an Italian manager. But that's not the case (laughs)."

Opponent team comment

Hisashi Kato

(Head Coach)

"Regarding our football in the first half, I think we were a bit passive mentally, or perhaps we were slightly intimidated by the atmosphere of this stadium. In that state, we conceded a goal early on when they exploited our weaknesses, which made it even harder for us to push forward."
Another issue is that Reds have a much better midfield mobility, and I think that's why our football became passive, as if we were always chasing the ball. In Reds' case, the midfielders are constantly moving the ball around at close range, and the players who pass the ball are constantly repositioning themselves. If we don't become more proactive in that regard, the opponent will gain more and more possession, and our defensive line will keep dropping deeper, and I think we weren't able to correct that during the first half.
In the second half, we made two substitutions to push forward a little, and both mentally and in terms of play, we saw instances where the defenders overtook the forwards. In any case, we were a little passive in the first half, and in the second half, we received a lot of booing, including from the goalkeeper, so I think we need to become a team that can play football without being nervous about the atmosphere in the stadium.
I was very angry watching today's game, but I think we need to show a team like the Reds, who have changed their approach, that they are not an easy team to beat."
