Trial-match comments
Mihailo Petrovic
(Head Coach)
- "The first thing I want to comment on is how important it is for Japanese football to have such great clubs as Urawa and Kashima battling for the top spot so late in the season. And as you can see from the atmosphere in the stadium today, the large number of fans and supporters in attendance created a fantastic atmosphere. I think the players are very happy to be able to Trial in such an environment.
Today's game was between the third and fourth place teams, and considering the number of Trial remaining, it was a battle for survival in the league championship, so I think it was a very difficult Trial for both teams.
I think both teams played extremely well. However, I think Urawa played better and deserved to win. We played aggressively both offensively and defensively. I think we were superior to our opponents until Trial was 2-0. However, after that, we became a little unclear about whether we wanted to win 2-0 or go for a third or fourth goal. Then we conceded a goal and it ended up being a close Trial. However, looking at the game as a whole, I think our aggressive attitude led to a game where we deserved to win."
Opponent team comment
Tonino Cerezo
(Head Coach)
- "Good evening everyone. Any questions?"
(What about Davi and Osako's play after conceding the opening goal?)
"It's unfortunate that we lost, but I think we did what we needed to do against a team with high individual quality and led by a great coach. Being down one player puts a strain on the whole team, which makes it very difficult, but players like Ogasawara worked hard to put pressure on the opponents. I think it was a truly wonderful performance.
I told Davi at halftime to "concentrate on soccer in the second half," but I think there are times when Trial gets heated and you lose control. However, I think the team has learned another lesson from that. Davi himself must be aware of what he did wrong. It's easy to become pessimistic when you lose, but even in that situation, we were able to show a high-level free lesson like Ogasawara showed. I think it's a play that anyone involved in soccer should definitely see, and I learned from him too."
(What about losing at home in the match between 3rd and 4th place?)
"As it was a showdown between the third and fourth-placed teams, I'm sure everyone was paying attention, but in soccer there are always wins and losses. I think Trial between the Reds and Kashima was worth watching if you're a Trial fan. I think both clubs need to keep on striving to make future Trial worth watching. I don't think there's any need to make a fuss over this defeat. We are in this Pos thanks to the players' hard work, desire and spirit of sacrifice. We won't let this defeat cause us to let go of everything we've built up. I will continue to believe in my players and fight through the rest of the season."
What kind of attention did you give to the defense?
"The Reds move their wingbacks up high, and have five players lined up in front of them, and then they change positions. Also, because the center backs are also involved in the attack, they create situations where they have a numerical advantage on the sides. We play in a 4-4-2 formation, so in addition to the up and down movement of both side halves, we also need our players to be clever. Also, the opponents have speedy players in the front line, so we have to be careful about switching between offense and defense. So I wanted to create a solid block and steal the ball. If we can switch from defense to offense quickly and get off the ball quickly, we can use the space behind the opponents' wingbacks. However, we spend too much time getting off the ball in the front line, and we often lose the ball. I think it was good that the defensive line also pushed forward bravely. I told the players about this at halftime and made them aware of it, so I think we were able to create that kind of situation in the second half compared to the first half. Until they conceded the first goal, the opposing team's number 5 player (Makino) was participating in the attack, but after they conceded the first goal, he didn't participate in the attack. Both teams have experienced players, so they were good at managing Trial in that way. Until we conceded a goal, our double defensive midfielders were playing side by side, but after we conceded a goal, Ogasawara pushed forward and hindered the opponent's build-up. I think it was good that the defensive line also pushed forward bravely. The fact that he continued to play like that until the end shows the high ability of Ogasawara.
