Hayakawa: "It's important to have a positive impact on the team through each role."

On the 21st, after the third round of MEIJI YASUDA J1 100 YEAR VISION LEAGUE Yokohama F・Marinos, Jumpei Hayakawa, who scored his first J1 goal, looked back on Trial and spoke about his goal and the role he will play on the team.

(Yokohama F・Marinos are a rival team for Hayakawa, having played against them in the semi-finals of the YBC Levain Cup.)
"When I was in my third year of high school, we lost the YBC Levain Cup away but won at home, and advanced to the final. However, we were defeated badly last year, so I think it's good for us to be able to bring home a win at Nissan Stadium, which is known as a difficult stadium, and bring about a win for us in the future. If the starters put their bodies on the line and endure like that, I think the benefits will come to the players up front, and whether they can score or not will have a big impact on the outcome of the game. As for that goal, (Matheus) Savio used individual tactics to read the opponent's pass, intercept it, and pass it well, so I'd say Savio was responsible for about 98 percent of the goal."

(But it was a goal on the first play?)
"I was extremely nervous. After it was over, (Watanabe) Ryoma and others told me, 'Watching from behind, I felt reassured because you were the type of person who could score those kind of shots,' but I was so nervous because it was so free."

(How did you feel the moment it was decided?)
"Personally, I felt relieved that we finally managed to score, and for the team, it was better to Trial 2-0 than 1-0. Scoring a goal gives you some breathing room, and it helps you move more easily, so in that sense, I think it was a goal that will bring something good to the team."

How did you see Trial unfold?
"Once we scored the first goal, I thought there was a good chance I would play as an attacking midfielder. Just like in the match against JEF United Ichihara Chiba, when we are winning and pressing from the front, there are players who are tired, and I have to chase them two or three times and make them kick long balls, so I played with that in mind. When I came on, I was thinking about preparations like doing a lot of sprints to prevent lactic acid from building up."

(In the attacking midfielder position, did you manage to strike a good balance between offense and defense?)
"Towards the end, the number of long balls increased, so if I predicted that I might get behind Isaac (Kise Thelin) in a contest or that I was going to lose, I had to go in and retrieve the second ball. The best thing would be to win as much as possible and force the opponent to play backwards."

(Last year, you started at this stadium but couldn't do anything. Did you have any special feelings about that?)
"Of course, there were some personal concerns, but there were also some as a team. However, despite that, the team had been in good form through the first two Trial, so we wanted to continue that momentum and win the match."

(Today we scored the second goal at a good time, so maybe we have a winning formula.)
"We will endure in the first half, and of course we want to score when we can, but I think it's important for the team to come home with a clean sheet. In the second half, the role of the substitutes is to go for goals and bring about a win, so they will be players with a different style to the starters, but I think it's important that they can have a positive impact on the team."
