FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Group Stage MD3 Post Trial comments against CF Monterrey (Mexico)
[Director Maciej Skorza]
[Question and Answer Session]
(What did you think of CF Monterrey's attacking system compared to previous Trial in the FIFA Club World Cup?)
"In today's Trial, we aimed to play a more open style of football, and tried to press Monterrey from a higher position. In terms of offense, I think we created more chances this Trial than in the previous two Trial.
Overall, I think we were able to create good attacking formations in the time leading up to the first goal. If we had scored first, things might have turned out differently. We were able to penetrate Monterrey's midfield and change the focus of Trial.
Maybe we lacked a bit of composure in the final third. The first goal we conceded and that critical period after the water break were crucial. The second goal came in the 34th minute, and then four minutes later we conceded another. Those eight minutes were very critical for our team. I think we should have handled the situation better after the first goal."
What did you and your players learn from this tournament?
"In all three Trial, we Trial as underdogs. We had to find ways to counteract the strengths of our opponents. The quality of our attacking players was clear in Monterrey today. I mentioned Nelson De Ossa in the press conference yesterday, and he broke the deadlock in Trial today with a 30-meter shot.
So, playing against a team of this calibre is a learning experience for us. It's something we want to take home with us for the second half of the season. Of course, you could say we were completely beaten today, but we also had good periods. We don't want to forget that and we want to remind the team that we were able to create our game and create chances during our good periods. It's a small thing, but it gives us optimism for the future."
