FIFAクラブワールドカップ2025 インテル・ミラノ戦 試合前日公式会見にマチェイ スコルジャ監督が出席
On the 20th local time, manager Maciej Skorza attended the official press conference the day before the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Group Stage MD2 Trial at Lumen Field (Seattle). He spoke about his enthusiasm for the second match against Inter Milan and answered questions from reporters.
(Inter Milan have two Polish players: Piotr Zielinski, who is injured, and Nikola Zalewski, who will probably play. What is your relationship with them and what kind of players are they?)
"I had a very close working relationship with Zieliński in the past. A few years ago I wanted to invite him to the Lech Poznan team, but the negotiations were very intense and he was thinking about returning to Poland, but at the last moment of the transfer window, I think an offer came from Empoli and he decided to go there. As for Nikola, unfortunately I have never met him, but he is a player with great talent and a great hope for Polish football. And I think his move to Inter is also a great moment in his career and I wish him all the best so that he can make the most of his talent in such a great team."
(Unfortunately, we started off with a loss in the first game. To have a chance of advancing through the group stage, we need at least a draw, but what have you emphasized to the players at this stage, and what do you think is most important in tomorrow's Trial?)
"Yes, the first game did not go very well. Especially the first few minutes, the first 20 minutes were very chaotic. But after that we played better and were able to put together some good attacks. We lacked a bit of composure and did not make good decisions near the penalty area when it was time to make the final decision. The second half started with a big mistake and we conceded the second goal, but then the team fought and scored a goal from the penalty spot. We had some good periods. But unfortunately we conceded the third goal from a set piece and Trial was practically decided. So now we are focused again. We know that this start was far from what we expected. We want to take advantage of this experience against Inter, of playing against a higher-ranked opponent, against an opponent with a different style of play. Of course, the hurdles are even higher than before. Inter are one of the best teams in the world. So we know that we have to be more focused, to improve the efficiency of our actions, the speed of our decision-making, because that speed is very important in Trial against Inter. And I believe that we can play a better Trial and get a good result."
(Of course, if we get one point from a draw we still have a chance to go through. Regarding tomorrow's result, are you aiming for a win or do you think a draw is enough?)
"We go into every Trial with the aim to win. That's who we are and it will be the same tomorrow. When the first whistle blows, we will fight and give it our all. We want to play better and play a good Trial. As for the result, we know that a loss will mean we are eliminated from the tournament so we will do everything we can to avoid that."
(Which Inter player do you think they should be most wary of?)
"I don't want to use the word 'fear'. There is no need to promote the opposing team. We know how strong they are and it's no exaggeration to say that all the players who play in this team are world class. So Inter as a team, as a whole, I am very impressed with the way they attack, the way they defend, the rotations within the team. In my opinion, it is not a question of controlling any one player on the pitch. Tomorrow's Trial will be about facing the good organisation of Trial and the whole mechanism of Inter."
(What are the chances that Urawa Reds will win their Trial against Inter tomorrow?)
"It's true that it will be the most difficult, but I believe we can cause a big surprise. I believe we can work hard enough for the 90 minutes and surprise Inter. Who knows, if we score the first goal, how the Trial will turn out. I say again, I believe we are up to the challenge."
(In the first match against CA River Plate, it looked like the team played in the FIFA Club World Cup in the same way as they did in the J.League. Will they adopt a similar approach for tomorrow's match against Inter, or does the manager have some surprise plans in mind?)
"Of course, our style, the image we show in the J.League, is our everyday life. But in Trial against River Plate, there were some nuances that we changed. There were some things that we wanted to solve differently. River Plate's 4-3-3 system is very attacking and required us to build up a little differently, and we also wanted to behave differently in transitions. But against Inter, we have to look for other solutions. What we want to use tomorrow against Inter, we haven't used in league matches so far and it's certainly an element that we want to focus on and hopefully it will be effective. But when making decisions, we also take into account the possibilities that we have in terms of the qualities of the players, because we have to act very realistically and not invent tactics that are not feasible for the players."
