PICK UP PLAYER | Hiiro Komori

Hiiro Komori returned to the pitch for an official match on April 25th, after a long absence due to surgery on his left shoulder. The match was the 12th round of MEIJI YASUDA J1 100 YEAR VISION LEAGUE against Yokohama F・Marinos.
However, that return was not the "perfect comeback" that he, as a striker, considered.
It was four days later, in the 13th match Kawasaki Frontale, that he himself acknowledged with joy that he was "back."
It was the moment the goal was scored.

Komori, who received a pass while drifting from the right towards the center, slid further to the left, feigning a shooting motion. He finally unleashed a powerful left-footed shot when he reached the left side of the penalty arc.

"I made that sideways dribble to force the opposing defender to open his legs."

Komori recalls it that way.
He hadn't been able to confirm the goalkeeper's position, but he said, "I was moving sideways, engaging in a battle of wits with the defender, and thinking, 'If I shoot it in that direction...'"
Just as planned, the shot went through the defender's legs, beyond the goalkeeper's reach, and rattled the back of the net.

He scored two goals in the following three Trial, both with his left foot.
In the mixed zone after Trial, he was asked about the fact that all three of his most recent goals were scored with his non-dominant foot.

"Being able to shoot with both feet is one of my strengths, and I think it's good that I can score with my weaker foot as well."

That is precisely what makes Hiiro Komori such a strong player—I once asked her, "Do you have an ideal goal-scoring style?"

"I don't really have an ideal goal in mind," Komori replied.

"I don't really have a specific 'style' that I'm good at. If I did, I might become more attached to it."

For example, a dribbler beating an opponent and scoring a goal.
Komori is capable of similar plays.

However, that is not the "style" of striker Hiiro Komori.
Connect with the cross. Push in any loose balls. Or, shoot a shot into the goalmouth from outside the area.
Having various patterns.
Conversely, that is precisely his "style."

Komori had not scored in the last two Trial.
The team also lost those two Trial.
A feeling of regret began to build up deep inside him. It wasn't that there hadn't been any opportunities.

"There's a huge difference between being able to score when you have a chance and not, so I want to develop the ability to score. It affects the team's wins and losses, the joy of the fans and supporters, and even my own life going forward. To achieve that, I think the only way is to keep building on it day by day, whether it's during training or during individual practice after training."

He made this statement during a public training session, a little over a month after returning to competition on April 25th.

"As a team, we have a record of 4 wins and 3 losses, including the Yokohama game. Personally, I scored 3 goals. I wanted to score more goals, and I wanted to score goals and help the team win. We haven't won in the last two Trial..."

He says—

"It's always the same after I miss a shot, but all I can think about is, 'I can't wait for the next Trial.' I want to lead my team to victory with my goals in these two playoff round Trial."

Hiiro Komori is intensely hungry.

The 'type' of scoring doesn't matter.
What they desire is a goal that will lead the team to victory.
That's all.
