Nishikawa: "Especially at times like these, I want us all to face the same direction and fight hard in the next Trial."

On the 18th, after MEIJI YASUDA J1 100 YEAR VISION LEAGUE Round 11 match Kashima Antlers, Shusaku Nishikawa spoke about his reflections on Trial and his thoughts for the next match.

"When we play against Kashima, it's always a fierce battle. In the first half, there were dangerous moments and chances for us, so it was Trial where it didn't know which way it would go. Everyone did their best for the entire 90 minutes, so we have to accept the result. I didn't feel bad at all while we were playing, and especially at times like this, I want us all to be on the same page, unite, and fight hard in the next Trial."

(After conceding a goal, everyone was looking down, but Nishikawa's reaction was particularly striking.)
"Yesterday, all the players talked about the importance of really speaking up. That includes set pieces, as we were beaten in those situations last time, so we were conscious of creating an atmosphere where we could express ourselves physically from the first half, both yesterday and today. I knew that things would get really important after we conceded a goal, so it was important for me to communicate clearly and try to clear the team's minds as much as possible, and since we had time, I don't think we needed to give up."

(Regarding the misplaced passes in added time and the lack of players receiving the ball, doesn't that kind of behavior also seem to reflect the current situation?)
"As a team, we're struggling, especially offensively. The players are doing their best and thinking things through, but I think everyone would enjoy the game more if we could create more combinations that don't require too much thinking during Trial. I think everyone, not just the players, needs to think about how to prepare for that."

(I think there are Trial where Nishikawa's great saves can turn the tide, but why is it that energy doesn't seem to come from those saves?)
"It's important for a goalkeeper not to get too involved in the defensive line, even if it's my own play. I try not to panic even if a mistake happens right in front of me, and I have the feeling that I can do something about it, so I think it's important to continue to be helpful. I thought that if we could keep Trial under control with at least one goal conceded, we would still have a chance. If we had scored one goal, I think we would have had a chance in the penalty shootout, so I'm taking the fact that we didn't concede a second goal as a positive, but as a goalkeeper, I also have a strong desire to finish with a clean sheet, so I want to continue to be highly conscious of that going forward."

(The position from which the shot was taken was similar to Pts against Kawasaki Frontale, but perhaps they didn't learn from their mistakes?)
"I think we did our best on defense, and it was unfortunate that the ball got hit and went in, but when the ball lands within the width of the goal, that kind of thing can happen, and we've all been conscious of the quality of our clearances in practice, but looking at the result, I think we still have a long way to go."

(I think it was a high-intensity Trial against Kashima, where we were able to raise our level of intensity. If we can Trial like this in the next three home games, we might be able to win all three.)
"There's definitely a power to playing at home. Today's result was thanks to the many fans and supporters who came out and cheered us on, so I feel very sorry. However, this isn't the end. We definitely want to win at home, and to do that, we need to work hard and stay calm in front of goal. Today, I don't think we had enough time to pass the ball around once we got to Zone 3, so I hope we can all work together as a team to stay calm in front of goal."
