Teruuchi: "No one is satisfied with just winning today. I want to win next time too."
On the 7th, after MEIJI YASUDA J1 100 YEAR VISION LEAGUE Round 5 match against Mito Hollyhock [MATCH PARTNER RDC], Toshikazu Teruuchi, who scored his first professional goal, reflected on his goal and spoke about his enthusiasm for the next match and beyond.
"In the first half, we were pushed back a lot and it was a difficult game, but we managed to score the opening goal and gradually regain some of our momentum. I was only on the field for a short time, but I'm glad we were able to get a result."
How did you see the flow of the game?
"In the first half, we were under attack a lot, so when I came on I was thinking that I wanted to keep the ball a little further forward and increase the number and duration of our attacks. Even though the opponents were down a man, they still came out to score, so I think that was a difficult situation."
How do you feel before going into Trial?
"I watched Trial and just had the mindset that if I was going to play, I'd give it my all, and I think I was able to prepare."
What instructions did you get from the director?
"There wasn't much time left and we were winning, so I was instructed to close out Trial and try to score more goals."
(What about the goal scene?)
"I knew that (Hayakawa) Shunpei would pass it to me there, so I ran with faith. As for the shot, I knew where the goal was, so I decided to shoot there and swung my leg."
How did you feel the moment you scored the goal?
"I was just so happy. Hearing those cheers when I scored my goal gave me goosebumps and I was overwhelmed with joy."
(I guess it was a dream to score a goal at Saitama Stadium?)
"I've been in those stands myself, so I understand the feelings of the fans there, and it was really great to be able to share in the joy of scoring my own goal."
(What do you think about the goal resulting from the combination between players from Urawa Reds Academy?)
"My timing to play was the same as Junpei's, so we were talking about 'Let's do our best,' and he scored a goal after assisting, so I'm glad that a player from the development team was able to score."
(Was it inspiring to see Jumpei Hayakawa score against Yokohama F・Marinos?)
"I thought that Junpei would be able to score some points soon, and I think it was a good motivation for me."
(But did you do the "Gatten Sushi" pose after scoring?)
"I'd said before that if I scored I would do it, so I'm really glad I was able to do it."
(But before that, there was a chance to score from a pass by Shoya Nakajima.)
"That was a scene where we had to score for sure, and it's not enough just because we got one point. We want to keep working hard on those kinds of things and try to score two or three points."
(That scene happened despite your short playing time, so I think you were able to switch gears well.)
"In the past, if I made a mistake, it would often drag on for a while, but now I've learned to switch gears, and I think that's an area where I've grown."
(How did you feel when you heard the "Teruuchi" chants as you walked around the stadium after Trial?)
"I was really happy, and it made me even more determined to have more opportunities to hear this call during my own play."
(I think it's the fate of Urawa Reds strikers to have to reinforce their teams even though they can't make the bench. How are you dealing with this?)
"I was very conscious of what I should do during the period when I couldn't make the bench last year. I didn't get too excited or upset about it, and I think I was able to do what I had to do."
(Manager Maciej Skorza said at the press conference that "You've grown a lot since the training camp, and you were the top scorer at the training camp," but what areas do you feel you have improved in?)
"I've been able to score goals since the start of the training camp, which has really given me confidence, and I think that's why I'm in such good condition. I've been able to continue doing that in practice, so I think that's what led to my goal today."
The manager said that the team needs him as a winger, but what about your role in terms of scoring goals and creating chances?
"I think it's important for me to get in front of the goal even as a winger, and my weapon is shooting, so I hope I can use that to score from the wing."
(For the next match)
"No one is satisfied with just winning today, so we'll move on to the next one and we'll definitely win, so please continue to support us."
