Hidano: "I want to switch gears and score a goal to help the team win the next match."
On the 7th, after the first match of the MEIJI YASUDA J1 100 YEAR VISION LEAGUE Round 1 against JEF United Ichihara Chiba, Renji Hidano, who scored his first goal of the season, spoke about his reflections on Trial and his aspirations for the next match.
(But he scored in two consecutive Trial since his official debut?)
"The goal itself felt like luck, but I was always conscious of getting close to the shot. I think it was a good goal because of a combination of luck and my own conscious effort."
(But it wasn't the first goal the team had said they wanted to score?)
"I wanted to declare that I would score the first goal and then score it, but more than that, the team's victory is the most important thing, so I was genuinely happy for Yusuke (Matsuo)'s goal, and it made me determined to score the next one."
(You've been working with Yusuke Matsuo since training camp, but how did it go when you played together in an official game?)
"Since speed is our weapon, I think we were very effective today in making runs behind the opponent's line and pushing their defensive line back."
(There were many instances where you fought hard up front and kept possession of the ball, but what about your role as a lone striker?)
"Up until now, I've watched Reds Trial and felt that they weren't always able to hold the ball up to the forwards. I'm good at making runs behind the defense, but I was always conscious of giving my all to hold the ball up for the team when necessary."
(I recall you saying before turning pro that you preferred the second row because you weren't good at carrying the team on your back?)
"I've never been good at carrying things on my back, so I just tried my best, or rather, I compensated for my lack of skill with sheer determination."
(You played as a winger in last season's match against Fagiano Okayama, but what was it like playing as a lone striker?)
"I felt really good about my performance. I didn't feel like I was losing in one-on-one situations, so I think I was able to play with confidence."
(You declared your intention to be a starter from the preseason and successfully earned that position. What are your actual feelings about that?)
"I knew partway through the game that I was going to be in the starting lineup, so I switched gears and went into the opening match determined to score a goal. I wasn't thinking about anything but scoring."
(After the substitution, did manager Maciej Skorza stop him briefly to talk?)
"It wasn't so much about playing ability, but rather a substitution based on physical condition."
(The opening match was Trial in incredible conditions, with snow falling. What are your thoughts on scoring a goal to start your professional career?)
"I've always wanted to score a goal in front of our amazing fans and supporters. I'm a little relieved that I was able to achieve that, but we have Trial next week, so I'll switch gears and score another goal in the next Trial and lead the team to victory."
(There were also calls of "Hidano" from the fans and supporters, weren't there?)
"I could hear it quite well, that's very helpful."
(Including the environment, it must have been an unforgettable day, right?)
"It was a pitch in my hometown of Chiba where I've played several times before. I was able to play on a pitch that holds many fond memories for me, and the result followed, so I think that was great."
(Do you think today's goal and victory are significant?)
"I think we were able to win as a team because we all communicated with each other, from the midfielders to the defenders. I don't think it's because of me at all; I truly believe it's a team victory. We have a series of away games ahead, but I hope we can continue to win as one team."
