Savio: "It was a difficult Trial, but I'm glad we won."

On the 16th, after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League Round 26 match Nagoya Grampus, Matheus Savio reflected on today's Trial and his goal.

"I think we played a very good Trial. The opponents pressed hard and were man-to-man, so I think it was Trial where we needed to make quick decisions. In the first half we made an advantage with a 2-0 lead, but we conceded a goal in the second half, which made it a difficult Trial, but overall I think we played a good Trial, and more than anything I'm glad we won."

(Looking back at the goal scene)
"I think it was a really good play by (Kaneko) Takuro. I think I was able to score that way because he was able to get into that position when he carried the ball and give me an easy shot. If I had controlled the ball, I think the opponent would have closed in, and if I had taken a controlled shot, it would probably have been blocked by the opponent. We practice in that zone during practice, so I was very happy to be able to score in that situation."

(What about your performance after the goal?)
"My son was doing that pose (Spider-Man) and he asked me, 'Dad, if you decide to do it today, please do it.' I'm glad I was able to do it."

(In the scene where Hiiro Komori scored the goal, Savio made a brilliant decision to turn in the midfield and remove two players. What was your decision on the play there?)
"I think it was from a free kick, but the opponent was playing man-to-man, so I moved to create space and tried to get the ball. When the opponent comes at me man-to-man, I try to control the ball sideways rather than at my feet. I was able to control and turn well, and Komori (Hiyan) moved in a way that made it easier for me to pass. I think he made a good finish."

(I think your performance has improved since the FIFA Club World Cup. What did you feel during that tournament and what are you trying to improve?)
"There is always something to learn. I don't think anyone is satisfied with the results of the Club World Cup. Whether we are in good form or bad, all we can do is keep our heads up and keep working hard. I know that I didn't perform well in the Club World Cup, but that's not the end. There are many more Trial and goals to come, so we just have to work hard every day in practice to achieve those goals."
