Comments from head coach Maciej Skorza ahead of the match against Kyoto
(The previous game against FC Machida Zelvia was a 2-0 win. How do you feel about winning the game, even though you were pushed into a corner a lot of the time?)
First of all, it was good to win an away game for the first time this season. I think we defended well in a disciplined and organized manner. Machida is a team that plays a lot of diagonal long balls, long throws, and crosses, so we prepared well for that.
(Regarding the two goals, were they the ones you were aiming for?)
(Were your two goals exactly what you were aiming for?) "The first goal, which came from a set piece, was exactly what I had prepared for. The second goal came from a great pass by Zhou (Shusaku Nishikawa) and a good link-up between Ryoma (Watanabe) and Yusuke (Matsuo). By having the wingers in that kind of position, we were able to create a 2-on-1 in a strategic position.
(Yusuke Matsuo was used in the first position, what kind of play did you expect?)
Yusuke is one of our best one-on-one players. I expected speed, skill, and great finishing."
(It seems like the team is gradually improving its performance?)
(Do you think the team's performance is gradually improving?) "We had good performances in the Fagiano Okayama and Kashima Antlers tournaments before the break, and we had a sense that our condition was improving, but we had to restart after a two-week break. After that, the game continued to improve, and I think the Machida game was our best performance.
(While there are high expectations for another best performance, the director himself has never played five home games in a row.)
I think this is the first time for us to play five games in a row. If there are any disadvantages there, I would like to think about the possibilities and the advantages."
(The first of the five games in a row will be Trial against Kyoto Sanga F.C., a team we played in the second game of the season opener and are currently in the top half of the standings. We will be playing against a powerful, top-ranked team like Machida?)
Kyoto is a physically tough team that plays aggressive and organized. It will be a very physically draining Trial match, but we will be able to prepare well for it in the next two days. This team has different features from Machida, but will be equally difficult Trial. If you are talking about playing against top teams, when we played Kashima, they were the top team at the time, and the season opener was against the previous year's champion (Vissel Kobe). The current J-League is flat, and we see ourselves in a situation where we can get close to the top three if we win."
(Again, against Kyoto Sanga F.C., for the fifth straight home game)
We will do our best in the first game against Kyoto, which is the start of a five-game home stand.
We always have a lot of fans and supporters who give us a lot of power at our home games. We may not have a full stadium on Wednesday, but we hope that as many fans and supporters as possible will give us their enthusiastic support from kickoff until the whistle blows at Trial. And we will do everything we can to deliver a victory to everyone.
