Trial-match comments
Volker Finke
(Head Coach)
- "I think today's Trial was very difficult for both teams."
Both teams had played Trial three days prior, and despite the extremely harsh weather conditions, the players on both teams ran hard and gave it their all. I think we were able to see on the pitch today how much effort and dedication the teams had put in.
As for the team, we haven't had much time to process things, especially with the poor results we've had in the last few weeks. And today, despite creating so many good scoring opportunities, we couldn't score the opening goal, and then we conceded an own goal, putting them behind. In situations like this, things like this are the most mentally damaging. So I don't want to be too harsh on the players. They gave it their all until the very end, and at least they managed to equalize.
Ideally, we would have liked to get three points today, but from now on we will prepare well and do our best to get three points in the next Trial no matter what happens."
Opponent team comment
Makoto Teguramori
(Head Coach)
- "First of all, I think tomorrow's headlines will be something like, '14 games without a win,' but in this game, we both came to the opponent's home ground having suffered three consecutive defeats, so we definitely wanted to avoid a fourth consecutive loss, and it was going to be a clash of wills. We knew that Urawa would attack first, so if we could withstand that, our game plan would go as planned, keeping a clean sheet and then looking for an opportunity to score, attacking while taking advantage of any gaps in their defense. The game proceeded according to that plan, and in the end, with our defensive line exhausted, Urawa also played desperately and managed to equalize."
It was a game where we only got one point, and we couldn't get three, but I told the players that we need to use this one point to our advantage in the next game. In the previous match at home, we tried to be aggressive and ended up losing to Gamba, so we decided to go back to Sendai's style of play, which is to exploit openings from solid defense, and I think we were able to show tenacity, persistence, and resilience today. Yesterday, when one of our reporters asked me what our win-loss record was after 16 games, I told him it was 10 wins and 6 draws. Today was one of those draws. We will do our best in the remaining 15 Trial."
