Trial-match comments

Gert Engels

(Head Coach)

"We started the first half a little slow. We were troubled by their counter attacks, long passes and second ball aiming. After our set piece, they scored a goal on a counter attack, so I think we weren't able to play at our rhythm. After 20 to 30 minutes, we started to make passes and created some chances, but fundamentally we didn't play as we hoped. We were a little slow in passing the ball, showing our faces to support others and switching between offense and defense.
Starting from the start of the second half, we got into a really good rhythm. Our passes got faster, our movements improved, and we made more vertical passes. We were able to turn the game around during that period, and we had chances to make it 3-1, so I think we played pretty well. Naturally, the other team was trying to score at the end, so we had some dangerous moments. What I found interesting was that both the first goal we conceded and the most dangerous moment came from our set pieces. I think that's something to reflect on. But looking at the last 15 minutes of the first half and the whole of the second half, I think the result was right. We played a good Trial."

Opponent team comment

Kenta Hasegawa

(Head Coach)

"The players fought hard until the end, wanting to get a win at home. With so many supporters in attendance, it was a humiliation for them to have to sing the Reds song after Trial, and from our perspective, this is an unforgivable result.
If we had managed to score the second goal first, I think it would have changed the flow of the game significantly, but we were unable to hold on for long periods of time, and we also had chances to score but couldn't, which I think was the turning point of today's Trial.
In the first half, we were able to score in a very good way at the start, so we had a chance to score another goal during the first half. I think the fact that we couldn't score was a big factor in the end, and I think we still have some areas where we haven't regained the "strength" we had last year, such as how we deal with crosses and other small details, so I will watch the video carefully and communicate that to the players. We have another Trial in two days, so there's no point in talking about what's already happened, so we'll look forward and prepare as a team for the next Trial."
