Trial-match comments
Mihailo Petrovic
(Head Coach)
- "It was a very good game. Although we lost today, Hiroshima is a great team, a strong team. To me, they are the strongest team in the league right now. Although we won our last match against Iwata, it was by no means a game in which we played well.
It was a game where we were lucky to win, but we had two days off and we had a good discussion with the players, and they prepared well for Trial. It was a great win, but I think there are still areas we need to improve as a team. We need to make sure we fix those areas in practice.
We played almost man-marking against Hiroshima. Hiroshima's offensive players, such as Sato Hisato, Ishihara, Takahagi, Miki, and Yamagishi, are very dangerous to face one-on-one. In that sense, I think we were taking a lot of risks.
I think the players' strong desire to win at all costs was apparent in their play, and their aggressiveness in their play was apparent, which I think led to the victory."
Opponent team comment
Hajime Moriyasu
(Head Coach)
- "In light of the 1-3 result, we will take this defeat seriously and move on to the next stage. Although we lost, the Hiroshima players did not fall apart despite being chasing the game, and fought as a team for the entire 90 minutes, which showed that they continued to fight as professionals until the end, regardless of whether they won or lost. Even after the score was 0-3, the players did not lose focus and fought to get a point back, so we will take this as a positive and use it to carry us forward into the next stage.
We didn't start Trial badly, but we were defeated by a free kick. We didn't start the second half badly either, but the first and third goals hurt us. If we had scored first, we could have played like Urawa did, but I think this is football.
Today's Trial was played completely away from home, but last year when we played here and were competing for the championship, we were completely defeated without being able to show our strengths as a team. Today, under the pressure of the Reds' supporters, who were even more numerous than last year, the players were confident and calm, and played through Trial. I think that is a good thing in terms of the team's continuity.
I believe the reason the Reds were able to stay very focused and play well today was because the Reds supporters were rooting for the team, and I think it's amazing that so many supporters came out to a stadium dedicated to soccer and supported the team.
Finally, a lot of Sanfrecce supporters came to see us today. We came here today with confidence, thinking we could win, but it's disappointing that we couldn't live up to their expectations."
