Trial-match comments

Mihailo Petrovic

(Head Coach)

"We knew it would be a tough game between two very strong teams. The schedule also made it a difficult Trial for us. After our final league match on November 3rd, there was just under a month until November 29th, and today's final Trial came just after that. It would have been ideal for us to Trial so soon after three days, but the schedule made it a very difficult first Trial for us.

After playing against Kawasaki in the Emperor's Cup on November 12th, there were 17 days until today. During that time, we looked for opponents for practice Trial, but unfortunately most Trial were on break, so we were only able to arrange practice Trial with university students. We arranged two practice Trial with university students, but I think the players were in a state of near zero mentally and physically, perhaps due to the influence of fighting under tension and pressure during the long season.

I have been a manager for 22 years, but I have never worked with such rules and schedules. I was feeling my way through the job, wondering how to lead the team. What words and practices should I use to inspire the players, and what harsh words should I use to encourage them so that they can face the next Trial with renewed tension and concentration? It was a difficult situation to prepare for this Trial.

Kashima played in the semi-finals about a week ago, so going into today's game, I think the opponents had an advantage in terms of Trial fitness and tension going into an official match. However, in today's game, I think the players fought with great concentration and discipline from the start. I don't think we gave the opponents any real chances in terms of their attacks, and I think we controlled their attacks. However, I have the impression that our attacks weren't going very well.

In terms of offense, we were able to carry the ball well up to the opponent's penalty area, but after that it was less about the quality of our combinations, the quality of our finishing, the accuracy of our final passes - I think there were many areas in today's game where we were not able to play calmly or where we lacked precision.

However, we can take today's game away from home with a 1-0 win as a positive result. After today's Trial, we once again experienced a tense Trial. For the second game, I think the players will be able to play a little more calmly, and in terms of offense, I think we will be able to show our strengths, such as how to carry the ball and combination football.

We have won 74 points and I believe we are the most stable team in the league this season. We want to play the second game with confidence and show that the points we have won are definitely worthy of being champions.

We need to be very well prepared and have a strong mindset for the second leg of the final in four days, because Kashima is a team that always shows its strength in adverse situations and can pull off surprising results.

It would be a big mistake to think that we are in an advantageous position because of today's 1-0 result. Looking at today's game, we certainly didn't win by putting up a good fight. If anything, it was a game in which we didn't show our true potential. We won't get the results we want unless we prepare very well and go into Trial.

Opponent team comment

Masatada Ishii

(Head Coach)

“I wanted to at least try to keep the opponent from scoring goals in today’s first match, but I’m very disappointed that I couldn’t do that. , I would like to spend three days and head to the next second round.”
