Trial-match comments
Mihailo Petrovic
(Head Coach)
- "It's a really big stadium, and it was hard to walk around (laughs). I feel as tired as I did after playing a Trial when I was still playing. After Trial I have to work without a break, giving interviews and press conferences, so it's hard to relax. It was tough, but I'm happy to be here here today.
I was thinking about what to comment on today's game. As for the game, we, the Reds, had the ball and attacked for a long time. I think Yokohama F・Marinos is also a very big club, and I have respect for F. Marinos. However, F. Marinos was playing at home, but as for the game content, you saw it. Since I am the manager of the Reds, I will comment on how the Reds played, but I think our team took a lot of risks, and everyone returned to their own half and attacked the opponent who was defending, and we created chances by using combinations and the outside. I think the players attacked with intention, using the inside and outside well. There were some decisive chances, but the only thing we lacked in today's Trial was goals.
Since this was a match between two of Japan's most representative clubs, F. Marinos and Reds, I think many people were expecting a more spectacular game with both teams attacking each other. However, if only one team tries to play soccer, no goals will be scored.
While moving the ball, the players tried a variety of attacks with great intent, such as vertical attacks, attacks from side changes, or scoring opportunities from Endo's long feeds aimed at the back of the opponent's defense. It's not easy to break down an opponent who is sitting back, but I think the players were able to break them down with a clear intent.
Mr. Montbellts is a French coach, but I think France is a country that plays very good football, and I think it is also a country with many great coaches. I respect him as a very high-quality and great coach. However, I got the impression that he was a little too defensive today.
I hope that tomorrow's media articles will have positive articles about F. Marinos getting one point, and not negative articles about the Reds only getting one point. If someone who didn't watch Trial reads the article, they might think that the Reds did poorly and that F. Marinos was good tactically.
I was hoping for a good game today with both teams attacking each other, but as a soccer lover myself, I am disappointed that it didn't turn out that way.
I believe that the team that should lead Japanese soccer must show soccer that captivates the spectators."
Opponent team comment
Eric Mombaerts
(Head Coach)
- “It was a high-intensity game. Both teams had chances to score. We created some good situations on the counter, and they also created some good situations. Neither team could convert until the end. Although the result was 0-0, I would like to praise the players, especially their defense. Especially in the second half, they were good.
In the second half, we were able to connect the ball even more than we were in the first half, and we were also able to evade pressure and lower the opponent's block. However, I wish I had made a better decision at the finish."
