Trial-match comments
Mihailo Petrovic
(Head Coach)
- "Today was a game in which two strong teams fought hard. I have worked in Japan for 10 years and have seen almost every game, but this was a very rare good game in the football you can see in Japan.
It was a great game with both teams switching quickly between offense and defense. However, looking at the overall content of Trial, I think there were many scenes where we were superior to our opponents.
I think the performance that the players showed proved that in the world of soccer, money can't buy everything. We have three great foreign players, and I think it's meaningful that we were able to surpass them as a team.
Everyone had an offensive mindset, and everyone had the mindset of quickly switching gears after losing the ball, and we were able to achieve that as a team. I also had a bad back, and it was hard for me to even stand, but I was able to stand so long that I forgot about my problems and was able to fight together with the players.
Especially in the second half, we had many chances to score the second and third goals. Not being able to convert those chances is something we need to work on in the future. What was more disappointing was the ball that (Kashiwagi) Yosuke passed to Sekine, and in the course of about four direct passes, a fourth player got involved. I felt angry the moment that pass went off course. It's rare for a fourth player to get involved in a direct pass. We were able to see the attacking combination we were aiming for in that scene. It's commendable that we were able to produce such a play, but we need to work on improving our finishing precision.
Another reason why it was a good game was because the opposing team also played aggressive football. When you play against extremely defensive teams like Fukuoka, Iwata, and Kofu in the J-League, it's hard to have a good game where both teams attack each other. I think the aggressive football that Guangzhou Evergrande showed today was the reason why it was a good game.
We must not abandon our offensive style just for the sake of results. Of course, we will lose sometimes, but football is a sport that is worth watching, so we want to play the football we are aiming for at all times.
Sometimes they throw long balls to tall players like Zlatan or Lee, but that is not their style of football. It only makes sense if they play their attacking style of football.
Muto played wonderfully today. Let's hear what he has to say."
Opponent team comment
Luis Felipe Scolari
(Head Coach)
- "It was a difficult Trial today. We had some chances, but Urawa Reds were brave. We were in a tough situation after the goal, but the players fought without fear. I'm happy with the team's performance. I'd like to say a big congratulations to Urawa."
