Trial-match comments

Mihailo Petrovic

(Head Coach)

"As you have all seen, J.League Trial are always very close, with either Trial likely to win. Today's game was no different.

In the first half, we were aggressive and put pressure on the opponents from the front line, which created a good flow for us. We gave almost no attacking chances to the opponents, and I think we created several opportunities where it would not have been surprising if we had scored.

In the first half, we were going really fast, so I thought it would be difficult to maintain that tempo for the whole 90 minutes. In the second half, after scoring in a good way, we had a period where we were pushed back by the opponent. During that time, we conceded a goal in an unfortunate way and were caught up. Two players responded to a dribbling player, and a shot or a cross hit the goalkeeper and rolled to the opponent, and the shot hit the goalkeeper again and was closed in. I don't think we were lucky either. However, after the score was tied at 1-1, I was confident that we would score in the remaining time and win. I think the players were the same. I think the players had the confidence and desire to win, that they would definitely score somewhere and win. I think that's what led to today's victory.

Opponent team comment

Milton Mendez

(Head Coach)

(I think making substitutions strengthened your attacking power, but you didn't make any substitutions at halftime. What did you expect to happen?)
"In the first half, we struggled to attack as we wanted. Our initial tactical aim was to exploit the space behind the opposing full-backs from midfield to the front. This worked well on a few occasions, so at halftime I instructed the players to make some adjustments based on how the first half had unfolded. Things got better in the second half, but as you said, I also have the impression that they got even better after we made some substitutions.

I think Yamanaka's positioning was extremely effective in our transitions and attacks when we went on the counter. I think we were able to get the ball to the opponent's goal quickly. The ball was going back and forth a lot, so we brought Tanaka in with the aim of having him keep the ball up front. We thought that if he could create momentum up front, it would be easier for us to move from the back to the front and go on the counter.

Certainly, I think the team improved a lot in the second half. With the score at 1-1, we got to the point where it looked like we could turn the game around. Breaking down the defense quickly from both sides and getting the ball to the opponent's goal quickly is something we've been aiming for all this time.

Unfortunately, I think that one of my individual actions hindered the result, which resulted in a 1-2 score. As a team, I think we played well defensively, and we had several scenes where our transitions and counterattacks from defense worked well.

I have a very positive view of the players' efforts today. It's unfortunate that we couldn't deliver a victory to our supporters. They created a wonderful welcoming atmosphere. Although we weren't able to achieve a victory, which may not have been a satisfying result for our supporters, I believe that the supporters were able to see how hard our players fought on the pitch.

Of course, I feel sad and upset, but I have to prepare well for the next match. I want to fix the things that didn't go well for the next match, and I want to continue to take the good parts of today's game and continue working on them in the next match and beyond."

(What were the half-time adjustments?)
"I would like to continue to avoid discussing the personal backgrounds of our players in such public forums. I take full responsibility, and I would like to refrain from commenting on individual player names or what instructions I gave them.

Positioning and line control, those are small details, but those instructions worked well, and as you can see, the team was able to fight well in the second half."

(The Reds may be the top team in the J-League, the strongest team, but Kashiwa is a new team. How do you feel about today's performance and result?)
"As I said earlier, I think it was a game in which either team could have won. The desire to win was very evident from both Trial. The Reds are a fantastic team, made up of players with high individual levels, led by a fantastic manager. Of course, we also fought hard, exploring what we could do in the game. We want to continue this attitude of never giving up in the game, and going for the second goal if we score the first. I think there were many good scenes in the game. It's unfortunate that we conceded a goal from a corner kick. I think it will take some time to improve on that.

In practice, we have been working hard on positioning during set plays. It takes time to gradually improve these elements. Also, we have many young players on our team, so I think it will be important for them to gain experience over time, which will be an important issue for the future. I hope that they will grow in the J.League.

As you saw, we defended well and then made quick transitions to launch counterattacks. We just need to be a little more balanced, get the ball up when we need to, and make sure we can score in the middle. I think those little details will be the key going forward.

But I think the players were very dedicated and fought to the best of their ability on the pitch."
