Trial-match comments
Per-Mathias Hoegmo
(Head Coach)
- "I would like to congratulate Machida-san. And I would also like to thank all the wonderful fans and supporters who came out today. I was truly surprised by all the fans and supporters.
I think today's Trial was at a top level. It was a match between two good teams. I think our defense was almost perfect in the first half. We pressed hard when we could, blocked well when we couldn't, and then went on the counterattack after stealing the ball. But after that, we lost the ball and didn't respond well, which led to us conceding a goal. Marius (Høibraten) went out to defend the zone in front of (Alexander) Scholz, which left space open.
On the other hand, today, Atsuki Ito ran up into the penalty area and scored the tying goal. After that, we continued to ride the momentum and had a chance to score the second goal from a cross.
However, I think we need to improve the quality in the final third. We're pushing forward, but we need to improve the accuracy of our one-on-ones and crosses. But I'm happy with the players. Their attitude and play. In the locker room, I told the players, 'This team has a lot of potential. Let's develop it even more in future practice.'"
Opponent team comment
Go Kuroda
(Head Coach)
- "Right from the start today, the overwhelming power and force of Urawa's supporters was sure to be transferred to the players, and if they were to succumb to that, they would not stand a chance, so I fired up the players before going in. Also, although we are currently in first place, if we were to try to maintain this lead or play weakly today, the leading pack would suddenly become a bunch of disorganized players, so I didn't want to be a mediocre team. I told them that gaining another bit of strength here and demonstrating our strength would have a big impact on our future battle for the top spot, and so I fired them up in that way as well. Also, today was my birthday, so more than anything, I wanted the gift of three points, so I sent them off with an extra pump.
As expected, there were a lot of cases where they had the ball from the first half, but they returned quickly, and they didn't leave the center or in front of the goal, so I think they did a perfect job, including dealing with crosses. I don't think there were that many shots in the first half, and I think Machida created more decisive chances.
At halftime, I told the players, "Let's not rush to win, let's not rush, let's take advantage of the opportunity and get everyone on the same page at once." "If we don't get impatient and persevere until the end, something good will definitely happen in the end," and I think the players believed that and ran well. A decisive chance arose in added time, and Nah Sang-ho made a solid one-on-one move and lured the opponent's foot, so I think he is an experienced player after all. He has speed and experience, and he does the important work in those situations, so I was impressed. At the end, Shimoda Hokuto kicked his prized penalty kick, and it was truly a total Machida battle, and each player was able to fully demonstrate their strengths, and I think we managed to pull off today's victory.
Saitama Stadium is a place where I have played many times since my days at Aomori Yamada High School, including the semi-finals and finals of the (High School Soccer Championship). Also, Hidetoshi Takeda, who was with the Reds today, was one of my students and we have played together, but even though I am now my enemy, it was a moving experience for me to be able to Trial on the same pitch, and I was very happy. Saitama Stadium is a familiar place, but being surrounded by so many Reds supporters made me feel a new sense of intensity. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to play in such an environment again, and I will re-energize myself and do my best for the next match."
