Trial-match comments
Maciej Skorza
(Head Coach)
- "Before Trial, both teams thought they had to Trial. We had that mindset as well, and tried to create chances by applying high pressure. However, Shimizu was very united and conceded the first goal. As we were unable to create any clear scoring opportunities in the first half, we made a substitution at halftime. We fought while slightly changing our build-up form, and I'm pleased that this led to us scoring.
After that, both teams kept trying to win. Shimizu also brought in two strikers at the end. And both teams created chances to score. For example, Bryan Linssen 's shot.
We knew that a draw was enough after watching the match against Shonan Bellmare, so we tried to calm the game down a bit at the end. It was a very good day in that we were able to achieve our goal of advancing through the group stage."
Opponent team comment
Tadahiro Akiba
(Head Coach)
- "The players played an extremely good game, and the atmosphere in the stadium was wonderful, and we were able to Trial in such an atmosphere thanks to our wonderful supporter family who fought with us until the end. This is what J1 is all about, and the players played with confidence, being ultra-aggressive on both offense and defense, not just playing the kind of football they've been doing and the work they've accumulated, and showed their strengths both as a team and as individuals.
I was a little lost in the system at the start of the second half, and I think that directly affected the outcome of the game. I wish I could have somehow connected the players' efforts to the three points and led them to the next stage, but I think they told me to do more, so I strongly feel that I need to think more about how I manage myself and how I respond to the efforts of those players.
The players showed a lot of great plays against Urawa, the J1 ACL (AFC Champions League) champions, without flinching at all. Although we didn't actually get the three points, we didn't lose. We created a lot of chances and of course there were some dangerous scenes, but football is a box-to-box game, so I want to play many more exciting and great games like this. Now we can focus only on the league. We have five consecutive games in a week, so we will switch our minds firmly to that, and show the intensity, quality, quick decision-making, and attitude of everyone heading towards the goal, and fight with dignity like today, and we will come back firmly. I think we are a club and players that have to play at this level, so I will switch my mind again and focus on the league, and do my best to be on the stage.
