Trial-match comments
Maciej Skorza
(Head Coach)
- "Before today's Trial, I wanted the players to focus on the stats from away games. Today was our eighth away game in the J-League, and our third win. I told the players, 'If we want to dream of winning the title, we have to improve those stats as well.'
I'm happy that we were able to achieve our goal today. But honestly, I didn't expect Trial to be this hard. I'd like to congratulate the Reds on today's Trial, but I'd also like to praise Kyoto for playing very well. We struggled a lot with the strong press. We had prepared a build-up, but under that pressure, we couldn't execute it very well. So, the only chances we had Trial when we switched.
Even though we didn't perform at our best in this game, we still had a fighting spirit. And it was good that we were able to win an away game against a very strong team in a situation that wasn't very good for us. After a short recovery period, we'll be facing Hiroshima on Wednesday."
Opponent team comment
Cho Kwi Jae
(Head Coach)
- "At this time, we are the only two teams playing a J.League Trial against Urawa, and many people from all over the country, including those who came to the stadium, watched this Trial, but I think that this Trial showed a lot of what we had prepared, what we had to do against Urawa Reds Reds, and what we wanted to do. That being said, we cannot overlook the two goals we conceded from free kicks, but we came into this Trial having played consecutive matches since the (YBC) Levain Cup against Gamba Osaka, and I have no regrets about the way we used the players and how we played today. We ended up with zero points today, compared to last year's opening Trial against Urawa, which we won, or the away Trial we drew, but I am very disappointed because I knew how much our players have improved and how much they can do.
In terms of how we can counter what the opponents are aiming for without losing our strengths in our lineups recently, I think that we were particularly good at recovering the ball after the opponents kicked a long ball and putting the ball into the place where the opponents were pushing forward, and moving forward. The same flow continued in the second half, and Urawa dropped back a little, and we had several chances, but the goal was far away. However, I think that Kyoto's players have definitely improved and have more skills than they did back then, even though they had a lot of difficulties when they were in J1 when they were with Shonan Bellmare, in this short period of time. It may sound like an excuse for me to say this as a manager who has not been getting results, but while I feel that we have made some progress, as long as there is a wall in front of us that we need to overcome together with the players, I think we need to take on that challenge.
I was disappointed because I wanted to carry the great Levain Cup victory into today's Trial, but I would like to congratulate Urawa for making it a thrilling and exciting Trial, with many scenes that had even those watching on TV on their feet. On the other hand, I feel very sorry that so many fans and supporters came from Urawa, and we received just as much support from our team's supporters. However, the next Trial is coming up soon, so we will make sure to recover well and get going starting tomorrow."
