Trial-match comments

Maciej Skorza

(Head Coach)

"It's a very good result for us. It's great to be able to deliver four goals to the fans and supporters in this stadium. It was what we had hoped for.

As always with Sapporo matches, it was not an easy Trial. We were lucky to have one player down during the period when the other team was sent off. We were able to keep the ball longer during that period, and at the moment of switching, Sapporo's danger level seemed to decrease. However, even with 10 men, Sapporo played very solid defense. We tried to move the opponent's defensive line players and create space to play, but our speed of play did not increase much.

After that, we switched to a two-man attack. (Alexander) Scholz made a very good move up front and scored a goal. After that, it was a rollercoaster ride. Just when it looked like we had scored the second goal, it was cancelled by VAR and (Jose) Kante was sent off.

Compared to other Trial, I think we were more decisive today. We finished well, and it was also great that we were able to score from a set piece. The players did a very good job, and I think they were also at a top level mentally. From now on, I'd like to prepare while thinking about Wednesday's (YBC Levain Cup) match against Shonan Bellmare."

Opponent team comment

Petrovic

(Head Coach)

"We didn't start Trial badly at all. I think we were able to control the game, and I think we were able to achieve our aim of stealing the ball from the opponents and then aiming for a counter attack after stealing it. But then we received a red card, and from then on we had to spend a long time defending with one man down.

We had conceded a goal and were behind, and then we conceded the second goal with a penalty kick. Of course, we respect the referee's decision, but when it comes to the decision of whether it was a handball or not, I feel that the referee himself, looking at the refereeing this season, has a lot of variation in the decisions depending on the play. So, after the second goal was scored, the opposing player received a red card and was sent off, and the numbers were tied, and I think we were able to show the kind of attack that is typical of Sapporo. And we were able to score one point.

Our players launched attacks to try to tie the score at 2-2, but then we were hit by a counter attack and conceded the third and fourth goals from set pieces. I think the long periods of Trial where we were down to one man wore our players down, and that fatigue may have led to a drop in concentration, which is why we conceded the third and fourth goals.

We played in a very tough situation today, but I think the players fought well and showed that they never gave up until the end. If we had played a longer period of time with equal numbers, I think the game would have been more tense and we could have shown more of the pressing and attacking that is characteristic of Sapporo. We lost in this way today, but we will move on and get our heads in the right direction.
