Trial-match comments
Maciej Skorza
(Head Coach)
- "It was a very disappointing result. Our aim was to start the season in a better way.
Today, the first and second halves Trial were completely different. Although we weren't perfect in the first half, I think we were able to play our style of football. Our high press was also quite good, and we were able to steal the ball from the opponents in many scenes, but we struggled to create scoring opportunities after that. There were some scenes where we were called offside, but I think we were a little slow or had some poor decisions.
In the second half, we became a bit passive and were unable to maintain the intensity of our press, allowing FC Tokyo to play in our own half. After that, we tried to increase the intensity of our defense by bringing in fresh wingers. We conceded an own goal, but we conceded a goal while the opponent was constantly pushing us back, so I won't use the word "unlucky." After the second goal, we tried to change the flow by bringing in Shinzo (Koroki) and Takahiro (Sekine), but we couldn't do it.
I would like to analyze this Trial in detail, especially the second half. I think it is important not to show two very different sides in one Trial. I wanted to win my debut match in the J-League, so I am very disappointed and sad. But to tell you the truth, I have not had very good results in my first match with my previous team.
It was a sad day, but I saw one wonderful thing. It was Urawa Reds fans and supporters. It was the first time in my career that I saw so many supporters at an away game. I want to thank all the fans and supporters, and I will work even harder so that the next Trial will be enjoyable.
Opponent team comment
Albert
(Head Coach)
- "I think we can look back on the first half in two phases. For the first 30 minutes or so, we weren't playing badly, and Urawa weren't creating many clear-cut chances through great play, but we made a lot of easy mistakes and had a hard time finding the rhythm of Trial. In particular, Urawa was good at attacking the sides of our anchor, which caused us problems. In addition, Urawa was able to break through our high pressure with mid-range and long passes from the goalkeeper, which made it difficult for us to play. We were also trying to launch attacks by positioning our wingers wide, but we struggled to create a good distance between the wingers and the midfielders, and we also had a hard time creating good attacks from the wingers. Also, the yellow card given to Higashi Keigo very early in the first half affected our play.
After that, the remaining 15 minutes of the first half was a period in which we were able to dominate Trial. We changed our wingers to take a more central position, which gave us a good numerical advantage and allowed us to dominate Trial.
Because Higashi Keigo had received a yellow card and the anchor was being hit from the side at the same time, we made some substitutions at the start of the second half and changed to a double defensive midfielder. I think that improving that was a good part of it. This 4-2-3-1 system is one of the systems we have been training in the preseason. Of course, I respect Urawa Reds, but I think we were the ones who dominated Trial in the second half.
In the second half, we dominated the ball and made good plays with our offense and defense transitions. I think we were able to dominate Trial in every phase of the second half.
Our captain, Morishige (Masato), was absent today, but he was injured in the final training match of the preseason and is out of action. The fact that we managed to win despite him being absent is also a big point. In addition, Kimura Seiji was injured during training and could not be called up today. Due to the number of injuries in the defense, we had many more offensive players on the bench and were able to play more offensive cards for this Trial. Finally, I would like to convey my respect to Urawa Reds and their new manager (Maciej Skorza). I think he is a great manager who has had a lot of experience and success so far. I believe he will do a great job here in Japan.
