Trial-match comments

Holger Osieck

(Head Coach)

"I would like to take this opportunity to make it very clear today that we have had Trial ACL final matches against Sepahan and Trial against Kawasaki Frontale, and in this difficult time for us, the fact that we have been able to perform this well is nothing short of amazing.
The players performed in today's Trial, pursuing their potential to the very end, despite the stress, pain, and exhaustion. Moreover, their opponent was Shimizu S-Pulse, one of the top teams in the J-League. They didn't have Trial on Wednesday. I think they had plenty of stamina. They showed that they could play that well, especially in the second half. I want to give them the highest praise.
In particular, today's Reds team was without some veteran players and players who had not played in previous Trial. Even so, the players who started for the first time in a while gave everything they had. Also, early in the first half, Suzuki Keita had to be substituted due to injury. The role we gave him was very important and he was a key part of our midfield. Uchidate, who came in as a substitute, filled that difficult role firmly.

I would like to take this opportunity to talk about something that is not directly related to soccer. As you all know, Japan national team coach Osim is seriously injured and hospitalized. I would like to take this opportunity to convey that I hope Coach Osim recovers as soon as possible.

Opponent team comment

Kenta Hasegawa

(Head Coach)

"The S-Pulse players came to this stadium intending to beat the reigning Asian champions, Urawa Reds, but as expected, they were a little stiff at the start. Even though they knew it would be tough, they were intimidated by the away atmosphere and were a little intimidated, and were not able to play at their usual tempo from the start. However, from the middle of the first half, they gradually started to get their feet moving and were able to create several opportunities to get close to the goal, but in the final moments, I was impressed by how well the Reds performed.
Throughout the 90 minutes, we played with the belief that we had no chance of winning unless we could overcome the Reds' strong points, their defense, and their strength in front of the goal. We tried all sorts of things, and looked back at how we'd played up until now, in preparation for today's game. I think we could have created one final scoring opportunity, but even in those situations, Urawa Reds' players put their bodies on the line to stop the goal being scored, which really brought home to me how amazing they are.
I think that the confidence of being able to play such a tough game and overcoming such a game to become the champion of Asia was felt in many places in today's game, and unless there is a team that can overcome such teams and overtake them, I don't think Japanese soccer will develop further. I hope that the Reds will win the next two Trial, and we will fight well in the remaining two Trial so that we can catch up with the Reds, even if just a little, and we will continue to train for the Emperor's Cup and next season.
