Trial-match comments
Holger Osieck
(Head Coach)
- "I've been winning a lot lately, but it feels like I've lost for the first time in a while.
Today was a typical Trial. The so-called outsiders showed more than normal strength. It didn't work very well today. They fought with a strong fighting spirit, and I think they pressed the opponent and pressed the attack, especially in the second half. But even if they took a shot, it didn't go in. There were factors that can't be explained. In this situation, a loss is a loss, so it's not something to be happy about. But a loss is a loss, and we have to accept it as a loss. That being said, this is certainly not the end of the world.
But one thing we mustn't forget is how much the team has achieved so far. I think we've been able to play very high-level football up until now. But that's been taking a toll on us. Trial like today's can happen in football. That's just how football is.
We will now have a short break, but I want to regain my lost strength and give it my all in the remaining J-League Trial after the break."
Opponent team comment
Satoru Sakuma
(Head Coach)
- "First of all, I would like to thank all the supporters, players, and staff for finally getting three points in my sixth Trial in charge. However, as I said to the players today, when thinking about the future development of the J.League and its cultural aspects, I want to make the derby with Urawa one of the best in Japan and one that we can be proud of on the world stage. However, the reality is that we are in a situation where we are fighting to avoid relegation, so for now I am relieved that we were able to get the three points.
Now that the break is over, we need to earn some points to stay in the league, otherwise we'll be far from staying in the league. As for Urawa today, in the first half they were very aggressive and had a high ability to possess the ball. On the other hand, we haven't seen much organized defense, including the three up front, in the last few Trial, so if we create a numerical advantage somewhere and keep switching sides to attack, Urawa itself might be forced into defense, so we aimed to create free players at the defensive midfielders and Morita, and use that to gain possession. For the first 20 minutes or so, we were pushed back by Urawa's organizational and individual abilities and couldn't control the game, but from the middle of the first half we were able to control the game and dominate the ball a little, which shortened the time we had to defend. The first half ended 0-0 as planned.
In the second half, we fixed some of our defensive and offensive issues at halftime, especially in the last few Trial, when we were competing with one person for the first ball, the ball floating in the air, and we had a scene where we mishandled the ball and conceded a goal, so we fixed that. In the second half, Urawa seemed to be coming forward aggressively, so we continued to use quick handling and free man to maintain possession of the ball, but Urawa's individual strength, speed, and high level of technique meant that we couldn't control the game very much in the second half. However, Morita made a great finish at the right time, and we scored that one point, so it was very difficult to manage the game plan for the last 25 minutes or so, depending on how tired the players were and what cards Urawa would use to attack us. The coach did various simulations on the bench, and thanks to that we managed to get through it, so I'm glad.
These three points are just one win in the league for us. From now on, there will be even more tough battles waiting for us with 10 Trial left after the break, so we want to keep going."
