Trial-match comments
Holger Osieck
(Head Coach)
- "We managed to get three points in today's Trial, but it was extremely tough."
FC Tokyo played very well today, but we started Trial better. We were able to develop a very fast attack. We started to fall apart midway through the first half, and in the meantime, Tokyo scored a goal. Fortunately, after that we were able to regain our own style of football and managed to turn the game around just before halftime.
In the second half, we also started with focus. That's how we scored the third goal, but after that, FC Tokyo had no choice but to take a gamble and bring on attacking players. They tried to score from set pieces such as corner kicks and free kicks, but even with the opponent doing that, we Urawa Reds had several chances on the counter.
Unfortunately, we couldn't score, but today's victory was truly a tough and painful one."
Opponent team comment
Hiromi Hara
(Head Coach)
- "We were playing against the champions Urawa, and it was an away game, but we've been on a losing streak lately, so we went into the game determined to play aggressively as a team."
We were thinking of using side changes effectively to create opportunities for Ishikawa and Richeri to attack, with the fullbacks getting involved, and I think we created several good chances in the first half. That's how we scored one goal. We wanted to continue playing at our own pace a little longer, but they had just one chance, switched the play to Hirakawa, turned forward, and Tanaka Tatsuya scored. Later in the half, Horinouchi also scored. It's not that our players were playing carelessly or being naive, but the Reds had better finishing ability when it came to scoring. I think our players did a good job of not losing out to the Reds in the battle for possession in midfield. It's just that their lack of finishing ability allowed them to take a 2-1 lead in the first half.
In the second half, we were just talking about switching sides or using fast forwards to create 2-on-1 situations on the flanks when a third goal was scored. Only Ponte reacted when Konno and Tanaka Tatsuya got tangled up. I think that's one of the differences between Urawa and us. For a split second, all of our players froze. Ponte ran and finished it cleanly. I think that's the difference.
However, for a while the team lacked momentum. But in the match against Kashiwa last week and against Urawa today, although we didn't get the results, our characteristic style of football is gradually returning. We have another Trial coming up soon, and we want to carry that momentum into it. We scored two goals today. We need to correct our finishing and fight hard, and then we'll head into the next Trial."
