Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – Press Conference after the Match against Shimizu S-Pulse

Comment from Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 8th Sec Match against Shimizu S-Pulse

There were moments when our team was not that switched on during the first half of the match today. However, they were moving around more and had managed to score the first goal. It would have been great had we been able to score another goal to finish off the match. But, it wasn’t possible. It was such a pity that we lost the goal after we restarted the match.

It was a shame that we not only lost a goal but also were not able to score a second goal. Having said that, we didn’t slump down after the goal was lost. Our team worked hard in order to recover the goal they lost without losing their spirit. I hope such an attitude will lead to something positive in the next match.

Questions and Answers

Q: I thought the team’s performance changed drastically after Kai Shibato joined the team in the second half of the match. What do you think of Shibato’s presence within the team and how he has been developing lately?

A: I replaced Aoki with Shibato during half time as Aoki received a yellow card early into the match today. I introduced Shibato halfway through the match as I wanted us to have aggressive defense in the middle. I thought he did a good job as he carried out strategic tasks well, not to mention taking the ball from our opponent team at crucial moments as well as adjusting his position well before we scored our goal. He is also developing his offense moves and I am looking forward to seeing his further development.

Q: During the first half of the match, the team was pressured especially on their sides today. What kind of correction instructions did you give to the team for the second half?

A: We adjusted the positionings of our players in the midfield slightly and redefined how we dealt with our opponent’s strong points. They were moving the ball around in order to get our players to chase the ball and they were putting the ball into the gap created amongst our players. When our players quickly moved forward as the ball come their way, this created some gap amongst our team. As such, I ordered our team to readjust their timing etc. to reorganize themselves.

Q: I trust you could interpret today’s result in many different ways as the team finished with a draw. Nonetheless, there were several positive developments on the pitch today. What do you think of today’s result?

A: We set the aim of gaining three points by winning the home match today. But, we only got one point by drawing the match. Since this was the case, we must gain our strength to bounce back again to move forward positively.
