Comment from Team Manager Volker Finke after playing in the Yamazaki Nabisco Cup qualifying round fifth sec against Shimizu S-Pulse
It is quite difficult to comment on today’s match as our team performed very well for a prolonged period of time. If our team had performed like they did in the previous match against Montedio Yamagata, I can make some critical comments. However, I do not wish to make critical comments when they performed as they did today. Every player on the pitch was strongly determined to win and we were able to see that today. The team also created many scoring opportunities. As we are going through our reform process now, it is expected that we face painful defeats like today. However, I cannot blame my team for the result today. This is because every player performed superbly. It is possible to say that we are not blessed by any luck under the current situation.
It is necessary for us to work hard to be blessed by good luck. I think that Lady Luck will smile on us if we continue to work as we do now. At the risk of repeating myself, there were many things to be critical about the team’s performance in the previous match against Yamagata. As a matter of fact, I have made several criticisms to my team as well. However, I was able to see many positive developments towards the future during the match today. Though we lost the goal as we did in such a pitiful way, our center back players had played so well for so long. I also thought that each of the players played so well in his position for a long time with the 4-3-3 formation.
The result we had today was such an unfortunate one. Many people out side of the club tell me that what people see in Japan is just the end result. Nonetheless, I am sure that our spectators in the stadium were able to see how well we played today.
